Valerie Harper (1939 – 2019) was an American actress. She began her career as a dancer on Broadway, making her debut in the musical Take Me Along in 1959. She is best remembered for her role as Rhoda Morgenstern on The Mary Tyler Moore Show (1970–1977) and its spin-off Rhoda (1974–1978). For her work on Mary Tyler Moore, she thrice received the Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series. She later received the award for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy Series for Rhoda. From 1986 to 1987, she appeared as Valerie Hogan on the sitcom Valerie. Her film appearances include roles in Freebie and the Bean (1974) and Chapter Two (1979), garnering her Golden Globe Award nominations. She returned to stage work in her later career, appearing in several Broadway productions. Dean Martin (1917 - 1995) was an American singer, actor, and comedian. One of the most popular and enduring American entertainers of the mid-20th century, Martin was nicknamed "The King of Cool." Martin gained his career breakthrough together with comedian Jerry Lewis, billed as Martin & Lewis, in 1946. They performed in nightclubs and later had numerous appearances on radio, television, and films. Following an acrimonious ending of the partnership in 1956, Martin pursued a solo career as a performer and actor. Martin established himself as a singer, recording numerous contemporary songs and standards from the Great American Songbook. He became one of the most popular acts in Las Vegas and was known for his friendship with fellow artists Frank Sinatra and Sammy Davis Jr., who formed the Rat Pack. In 1965, Martin was the host of the television variety program The Dean Martin Show, which centered on Martin's singing and comedic talents and characterized his relaxed, easy-going demeanor. From 1974 to 1984, he was roastmaster on the famous Dean Martin Celebrity Roast, drawing celebrities, comedians, and politicians. Rhoda is an American television sitcom created by James L. Brooks and Allan Burns starring Valerie Harper that initially aired on CBS for five seasons from September 9, 1974, to December 9, 1978. In the first spin-off of The Mary Tyler Moore Show, Harper reprised her role as Rhoda Morgenstern, a spunky and flamboyantly fashioned young woman seen as unconventional by the standards of her Jewish family from New York City.
