Just LOOK at the condition of this beautiful 38 YO car….65K miles and still like the day it left the showroom – and that’s not because it’s been restored; it’s been kept like that all its life! Lancia Betas are rare at the best of times and the Volumex (supercharged) one even more so.  Interestingly, even though Betas had fuel injection by this point, the Volumex is still carburettor as that works better with the supercharger. 

I hadn’t even planned to be in Epping that day – was supposed to go on a Meetup walk elsewhere but missed it because of public transport issues, so it was a case of ‘what can I do instead?’  I’d seen this car going by twice earlier in the day and thought I’d seen the last of it when suddenly, nearing Epping station at the end of the walk, I happened to glance towards a driveway and there it was.  So I went and said hello to the owner, who is the 1st Quentin I’ve ever met whose surname isn’t Tarantino!  You can hear Quentin’s Stag (also lovely) starting up during the video and see him getting out of it at the end. 

I had a lovely chat with Quentin about lots of things and here would be a good place to give a shout-out to the www.visiteppingforest.org site he was instrumental in creating as part of his Economic Development / Tourism Manager role at Epping Forest District Council.
