미국행 캐러밴 수천명 멕시코서 해산…통과비자 받고 개별 이동
Mexican immigration authorities have disbanded a migrant caravan of more than 7-thousand people heading for the U.S. border.
Officials on Saturday said the caravan was dissolved after reaching an agreement with its organizers.
They redirected the migrants to Mexico's National Institute for Migration in Chiapas state.
The agency says it is also assisting people in obtaining paperwork to regularize their stay in Mexico.
The migrant caravan, made up of people from across Central America, Venezuela, Haiti and other places, is said to be one of the region's largest caravans in recent years.
It had departed from the southern border city of Tapachula last Monday to coincide with the Summit of Americas.
