In 1988 - 1989, David from Somerton in Somerset used to purchase records and cassette tapes off of me trading as King Penguin Distribution.
David had a experimental music project that had been recording very sporadically.
Movement 1 was recorded in 1986, Movement 2 in 1987, Movement 5 & 6 in 1988, the rest of the Movements were recorded in 1989.
I helped 'promote' the record via flyers in all King Penguin Distribution correspondence and selling at gigs (in fact I am thanked on the sleeve). The flyers highlighted some influences to these movements. Gong / Can / Tiny Tim / S.P.K / Two Virgins (Ono / Lennon) and Throbbing Gristle.
There are only 519 copies of this record all numbered and stamped on the inner sleeve. I have number 8.
David was, and no doubt still is, a vegan and anti-vivisectionist.
These movements were created with those issues as the main influence.
Hence the title of the record.
Some sleeve notes:
"This is a journey exposing true feelings experienced by living creatures, the victims of man's slaughter and the lust of consumption. Everyday you read in the press, or see on a glass screen, horrors exposed which are all caused by man. The Seol dogs in Korea, hung and eaten. The robins in Italy that are shot, and eaten as a delicacy. Even the U.S and U.K, where animal experiments go on every day. But what makes it frightening is the way the public are manipulated to give money which finances these vultures of our society. The experimenters are human and hate to hear their fellow animals squealing in excruciating pain - so they rip out the animals vocal chords. So as the title suggests, it is journey into madness. I have created an electronic symphony in memory of the forgotten millions of animals who have died needlessly, and sometimes in excruciating pain".
