Bonjour! We are looking at how to pronounce this word from French, that simply means ‘goat’ in France, but by extension, it has also come to mean goat cheese. In French, with the typical french pronunciation, you would say this Chèvre. Note that in France, if you’d say ‘La Chèvre’ it refer to the animal, but ‘La Chèvre’ would refer to the cheese, because the cheese is masculine in the French language, while the animal is feminine, that’s just the way it is. Now in English this would obviously refer more often than not to the type of cheese, goat cheese, French goat cheese perhaps, and you would pronounce it: Chèvre. Chèvre.
