Senior government officials will not receive a salary hike as proposed by the Salaries and Remuneration Commission.
This is after President William Ruto shot down the proposal, arguing the pay gap in his administration needs to be bridged while saying the lower cadre of employees in the public service need to be cushioned from inflation.
This means the President, his Deputy Rigathi Gachagua, members of parliament, Principal Secretaries , Cabinet Secretaries, and judges, among others, will not benefit from a 7–10 percent salary hike.
Junior civil servants, teachers, and police will, however, benefit.
