"Panis Angelicus" is a verse from the hymn ‘Sacris solemniis’, which was written by Saint Thomas Aquinas for the Feast of Corpus Christi in the 13th century. César Franck composed this music in 1861. John McCormack regarded his singing of Panis Angelicus at the Eucharistic Congress of 1932 to be the pinnacle of his career. Held in Dublin, McCormack sang at Phoenix Park to an audience of over a million people. He was a very religious man and had a deep Catholic faith. He donated thousands of dollars to the Church's many charities and performed many fund raising recitals.
He was made a Papal Count in 1928. This was recorded on September 5, 1927.
