A postman has been hauled off duties after footage emerged showing a Royal Mail van dodging a traffic island to drive the WRONG WAY down a busy London high street - only to pull over just 50 yards later.

Dashcam footage captured in Palmers Green, north London, shows the distinctive red Royal Mail van overtake queuing traffic only to be met head-on by an oncoming delivery van trying to turn right.

Having already driven down the wrong side of a traffic island - designed to direct traffic onto the correct side of the road and provide a safe place for pedestrians to cross - the van then swerves around the oncoming vehicle on the wrong side.

Ross Malickis, who witnessed the incident, said there was 'no way' the postie could have known what was coming towards him.
