An 11-storey building still under construction collapsed near Chennai, India on Saturday (June 28), killing at least 17 people. Around 40 are still feared trapped under the rubble.
According to New York Times, the building had two towers and one of them collapsed after heavy rains. Around 72 workers were in the building at the time of the collapse, the NDTV reported. Some 21 workers have been rescued so far.
The trapped workers were lining up to collect their wages when the building went down at about 5 p.m., according to the New York Times. The authorities arrested six people on Sunday, including the partners of the construction company, the architect and the structural engineer. They have been charged with criminal negligence in connection with the building collapse.
