While I was staying in Tecopa Springs, CA I decided to go for a drive in the afternoon to see what was beyond the town.
Only 7 miles to China Ranch a sign urged. A Date Farm. Dan had mentioned something about a date farm. Must be the same.
So I followed the signs. What a thrilling, confusing, beautiful, bumpy drive it was! When I got to the end, I only wished I had more time.
Truly an oasis in the desert. I've never seen or experienced such a thing before.
I like unique places. Watch the video and you will see what I mean.
What I did not talk about in the video (because I only covered 100 years of it's history) was the Native American presence 1,000 yrs before European intervention. This was the ancestral home of the Paiute and Shoshone tribes who roamed all of the Death Valley area.
It has an history that dates back millions of years. The run off of glaciers, in the north, carved deep canyons in the landscape. The Amargosa River is a short distance from the China Ranch. The oasis was created millions of years ago when the lakes that use to cover this area dried up, leaving pockets of water and life.
I hope you enjoy the video. Thanks for watching. Please subscribe and leave me a comment.
