A class-action lawsuit against Meta, which claimed that it improperly shared user information with Cambridge Analytica, a data analytics company used by the Trump campaign, has been settled for $725 million. A settlement was suggested after it was learned in 2018 that the third-party company, which declared bankruptcy in 2018, may have accessed up to 87 million people's personal information without their consent. In a court filing on Thursday, the plaintiffs' attorneys argued that this settlement represented the largest sum ever paid by Facebook to resolve a private class action lawsuit and the largest award in a data privacy class action.
