I am replacing the engines on two theoretically identical Contessa 32 sailing yachts, both changing from Yanmar 2GM to BetaMarine 25. Sounds simple until you start unpeeling the onion on nearly 50 year old classic boats and there are, as always, a few surprises in store. I end up getting into replacing or refitting the stern tube, rudder tube, seacocks and that’s before I even get to measuring up for the new engine beds.
