Electricity department contractor damaged underground piped gas pipeline belonged to Indian Oil Adani Gas (IOAG) Pvt Ltd near Noor-e-Masjid at MES College Zuarinagar on Friday morning while laying underground electricity cables, leading to chaos and panicking situation among the residents in the vicinity.
Nearly about 30 flats housed in Grand Avenue apartment was decided to evict as a precautionary measure after the gas leak entered into all the flats, which could have been a major disaster.
The power supply in entire area was shut down. The fire personnel from Goa fire services besides police and electricity department personnel reached to the site.
The technical team of IOAG closed the valve supplying gas after 45 minutes of the leakage from the affected pipeline, failing which it could have been different situation.
The Chicalim panch member Nilam Naik asked the contractor of electricity department to stop the work immediately. She alleged that the contractor failed to produce any supporting documents of having issued any permissions granted by the panchayat body for digging and laying up of underground electricity cables.
