During an overnight stay at the Liwa Hotel in the Empty Quarter of the Abu Dhabi Emirate, we climbed dunes until after dark and got up the next morning to be back on the desert with our two drivers at 6:00 to watch the sunrise, visit a lone Beduoin's camel camp, and study the dunes, salt bushes, and sand roses (gypsum formed well below the surface). We also did some dune bashing and rode a sand avalanche down a huge dune. We saw NO other people in three hours.
