I geek out and go into great depths about my strategy for race gear and the transition drop bin for the Montana 2021 Spartan Ultra Beast race in Bigfork, Montana.
The Ultra Beast is a 50K obstacle course through the mountains along Flathead Lake. Springtime weather in Montana can be nasty in terms of becoming hypothermic. During the Ultra race, you return to the start area after completing the first lap of the race. This area is called the transition area, where you can have any gear, food, or hydration you think you will need to go back out and complete the second lap and finish the race. Or you could linger in the comfort of the transition area and walk back to your vehicle and Did Not Finish (DNF) the race.
I had a good strategy going into the race, the weather was warmer than expected which presented some problems with my liquid fuel stored in my transition bin.
I also should have worn long running tights to protect my legs from all the underbrush and bushwhacking in the race.
Thanks for watching.
