4. SOUNDBITE: (Arabic) Bassem Dhan, Founder of Free Mini-Library:
"The idea of the library came from the fact that in this city people were refraining from reading, there was a great lack of sharing and distributing books, so we tried to find a way to spread books, in an easy and flexible manner, within the reach of people, so we figured books should be free, and be presented in public places, in parks or in the streets near state institutions, and be left there for people to be able to read without paying fees or buying the books, without restrictions."

6. SOUNDBITE: (Arabic) Bassem Dhan, Founder of Free Mini-Library:
"When we presented the project, many people rejected the idea, because they feared it would fail as the books would be on the street, so people might take them and not return them. But in fact we made a leap of faith and bet that the people of this city would support the success of this project."

"Honestly, I came here today to the park and I was surprised to find this mini-library here, and I liked the idea, and I thank all those behind this project. To be honest the library is diverse - the book collections range from for 8 year old to 60 year old people. I like the idea very much and I didn't expect it. When I first saw it, I took a book and I liked it."

LEADIN:
Reading is a pastime that has become a rare luxury for many in war-torn Libya, where public libraries are not widespread.
But in the port city of Zwara that has changed thanks to one man's vision of free mini libraries open to young and old.
STORYLINE:
Bassem Dhan is the founder of Free Mini-Library, a network of kiosks and cabins situated in public places, where people can borrow books for free.
There are even cupboards designed specially for children, low enough for them to be able to reach in and take a book.
Dhan noticed a serious lack of books and reading in his city, and decided to do something about it.
"We tried to find a way to spread books, in an easy and flexible manner, within the reach of people, so we figured books should be free, and be presented in public places, in parks or in the streets near state institutions, and be left there for people to be able to read without paying fees or buying the books, without restrictions," he said.
The idea has taken off.
