Within a healthy eye is a clear lens. As we become older, that lens becomes cloudy. The cloudy lens is called a Cataract. In cataract surgery, the cloudy lens is removed and replaced with a clear artificial lens implant.
At the moment, the world's best lens implant for precise far vision is the light adjustable lens in my opinion. The implant can correct astigmatism, and is adjustable after cataract surgery or refractive lens exchange (RLE), allowing correction of residual refractive errors. RxSight has now released the successor or companion to the LAL, called the LAL plus (LAL+). What advantages will the LAL+ provide? There will likely be some improved intermediate vision, but at what cost? Will it provide similar intermediate reading vision as Alcon's Vivity? Will it introduce new dysphotopsias such as those seen with diffractive multifocal lenses?
The lens is so new that it's too early for me to share my experience with you. I hope Light Adjustable Lens Plus continues to bring high quality vision with added range of focus.
If you have any questions, feel free to leave them in the comment section below!
