STORYLINE:
Firefighters in the Afghan capital Kabul battled with a large fire raging in the city's most important timber yard on Friday.
Logs, tree trunks and timber are one of the most valuable commodities in Afghanistan.
With each log costing at least 10 US dollars - a small fortune by Afghan standards - many lumber yard workers were willing to jump into the fire to save them.
Fire trucks arrived promptly but being old and carrying broken hoses, they were at best, inefficient.
Emergency workers were particular concerned because the timber yard is situated just next to a fuel depot, full of barrels of petrol.
Fortunately no harm came to the depot and the fire was brought under control after a few hours.
