Why are the Romulans more advanced than the Vulcans?

You would assume that two species that used to be one would be at the same level of technology or at least the Vulcans would possess advanced tech due to commitment to science and logic but that is not the case.

In the original star trek series and Enterprise, we were shown that the Romulan star empire technology was overall more advanced than the Vulcans which can be confusing since they are known for their intelligence and focus on logic.

When you try to figure out the reason why there's a gap between their technology, you come to multiple reasons, but for me it comes to one main cause which is “caution”. The Vulcan were one of the first species to develop warp drive, though a century passed between the first warp flight to breaking warp 2 barrier. Other species were able to break through the different warp barriers in the matter of decades due to taking chances and what happened to the Romulans. Due to their desire to grow their empire, they took chances which allowed them to develop cloaking technology and other advanced weapons which is the reason why they are more advanced than the Vulcans.
