Loutra Edipsos is in the northeast of the island of Evia , is connected by ferry to the village Arkitsa on the mainland. Loutra Edipsos is the main spa in Greece, with about 75 warm and hot thermal water sources that have a healing effect.
The water from the springs is sulfurous, it rises from about 3000 meters below the earth's surface, and flows through the rocks into the sea. The water temperature of the sources varies from 28 to 86 degrees. The first baths in Loutra Edipdos originate from Roman times.
Loutra Edipsos also has a place in Greek mythology. The goddess Athena would have asked the god of the underworld, Hephestus, to bring hot water to this place to create a place for her hero Hercules to relax.
On the seashore are the major luxury hotels and in the city is a wide choice of restaurants, tavernas and cafés. Along the promenade at the port are eucalyptus and pine trees.
A long strip of narrow beaches connects Edipsos to Aidipsos, the settlement located 4km NE of the spa city. The beaches mostly consist of sand with small pebbles and the sea is generally shallow and there is little current.
From Aidipsos to Gialtra, all around the gulf, the coastline is characterized by narrow beaches with the pines that reaches the sea.
The village of Gialtra lies on the promontory opposite to Edipsos. On the north side there a little cove plenty of fishing and local boats and a windmill.
Where to drop your anchor? The answer could be everywhere along the coastline, avoiding the ferry areas. Anyway, you can drop the in front of the springs at the entrance of the Gulf, or in front of Edipsos and Aidipsos, inside the Gulf in front of Kotikos , or close to Gialtra. Bottom is usually sand with weeds, but to find a reasonable depth you have to go close to the coast. The easier area is the corner in front of Aidipsos with a small plateau around 8/10 meters.
