Mealworm FAQ's
Can I breed them at room temp?
yes they breed fine at room temperature, they breed faster at a slightly higher temp but it is not necessary!
Do I need to separate the Pupa?
No, as long as they are not kept in overpopulated conditions and not dehydrated and malnourished with no protein source there will be very little cannibalism. I separate them for the sake of the breeding log.
How long do mealworm beetles live?
They can live for many months in the right conditions and 8 weeks minimum.
How many eggs can a beetle lay?
approx. 500+ per female beetle.
Can I feed beetles to my pet?
Yes larvae, pupa and beetles can all be fed. pupas are highest in protein and beetles have the lowest overall nutrition.
How long do pupa take to become beetles?
approx. 10 days.
Are mealworms easy to breed?
Yes they are easy to breed! they breed fine at room temperature with no smell and very quickly. you only have to feed once a week or more and clean them out by sieving the frass every month or so (mealworm waste is called frass, it is dry, clean douse not smell and is one of the best organic fertilizers!)
