USBI NRCS Code 336 808 Day 2 Session 1 USBI deep dive webinar series on Code 336 Soil Carbon Amendment from USDA NRCS. Held Jan 18 & 19, 2023 - US Biochar Initiative and NRCS Soil Health Division staff presented on this new biochar funding process and how Code 336 Soil Carbon Amendment Conservation Practice Standard (also Code 808) can be used to improve soil health and build soil carbon through application of biochar & compost. This practice code pays for the purchase of biochar and for the installation. Amount of funding varies based on NRCS criteria which will be covered on Day 1. * Jan 19th - Day 2 - Technical Overview and Application Methodologies We will outline practical information to consider when sourcing, inoculating, and applying biochar. Methods to monitor soil nutrient interactions will also be discussed. Session 1 of Day 2 features a quick introduction on the US Biochar Initiative and then quickly moves on to a presentation by Kristin Trippe with the Biochar Atlas program. Kristin Trippe Ph.D. is a research microbiologist with the Agricultural Research Service, an agency within the US Department of Agriculture in Corvallis, Oregon. Her laboratory focuses on the effects of biochar on soil health and microbial community dynamics and developed the Pacific Northwest Biochar Atlas. Kristin is joined by Richard Reid, USDA-NRCS Soil Scientist (Core Team) to review the Web Soil Survey online tool. This is one of our longer recordings.
