Here's something to add to your bucket list: a hot air balloon ride over the ancient pyramids of Teotihuacán (+ lunch in a cave?!)! 🎈🇲🇽 (save this for later!)
Just an hour away from Mexico City, you can float above the Pyramid of the Sun and the Pyramid of the Moon with the ancient city stretching out below. 😍🌅 And trust me, waking up at the butt-crack of dawn is totally worth it for that golden morning glow. 🙌🏽
As someone who gets major flight anxiety on airplanes, I was ready for the same sweaty palms and knotted stomach... but this was SO different. 😌 The balloon glided so smoothly – it felt like a dream. 🌙
After our hot air balloon adventure, we headed to La Gruta, a one-of-a-kind restaurant serving up delicious Mexican food underground, in a volcanic cave! 🤯 With sunlight streaming through the the rocky ceiling, we savored enchiladas and café de olla. ☕
Post-lunch, we checked out a local shop to sample Mexico's finest mezcales and tequilas – and wow, they’ll definitely put some hair on your chest! 😂
We also dove into the rich traditions of the indigenous people, learning about their creative use of the agave plant for everything from food and fiber to shelter, paper, soap, and the ritual drink known as 'pulque.' 🌿🪴
The last stop of the day was to see the archaeological site of Teotihuacan from the ground. 🙌🏽 These pyramids breathtaking up close, and wandering through the ancient city gave me such an appreciation for its history.
Add this experience to your Mexico City itinerary – you won’t regret it! 📃 Would you do the hot air balloon?
