There are lots of "authenticity" narratives that are problematic when we consider them in light of the dynamics of systemic oppression.
Here I consider three such narratives and explain why they're problematic, plus share some questions to consider when assessing cultural narratives such as "being authentic" through the lens of power and privilege.
