This was a Day Hike in Central Oregon, Three Sisters Wilderness & Deschutes National Forest, starting @ Green Lakes Trailhead, Hiking parallel to Fall Creek beside numerous breathtaking Waterfalls in pristine Alpine Forest ultimately up to the spectacular Green Lakes Designated Camping Area of 22 posted Backcountry Camping Sites (what I have dubbed “The Alpine Campus"), both Lower and Upper Green Lake, and ultimately up to Golden Lake and the Upper Three Sisters Wilderness Alpine Zone Above it as the Turnaround Spot for this 17.1 Mile, approximately 2000 FT Elevation Gain Out & Back Day Hike!
Weather was a low in the low 30's, high in the low 60's, bluebird sky day and very windy. This was Hiked on 9/2/2021, rail was completely clear of snow, and there were NO Mosquitoes!
On AllTrails, this Hike is called "Green Lakes Trail", but in my hybrid custom longer version you Hike well past the end point of the AllTrails version up to Golden Lake and a little beyond it in Three Sisters Wilderness. As far as road conditions, it's all Cascade Scenic Byway until a turnoff parking lot area right off the Highway that is in great condition, any car should be able to make this easily and the road most definitely DOES NOT require 4-Wheel Drive in my humble opinion - however, do watch for road conditions as far as snow/ice and plan accordingly since it is a heavy snow/ice area, and do so at your own risk!
As far as permits, the Green Lakes Trailhead DOES require a Recreation.gov permit, absolutely worth it as one of what I have dubbed “the Seven Wonders of Three Sisters Wilderness”, in fact one of the Top 3 within that crème de la crème premium Hiking List.
