Graptoveria Fred Ives or ‘Succulent Freddy’ is actually a hybrid of Graptopetalum Paraguayense & Echeveria Gibbiflora which explains the ease in propagation, propensity of becoming dangly and grow large in diameter. These plants can grow up to 18-24 in tall & up to 12 inches in diameter. Once established, it can go for about a week without watering during spring & fall moderate temperatures. It loves being in the sun, but still needs a few hours of shade in a day. Its petals can show beautiful blends of purples, hues of green, lavender including hints of pinks & blues.
Because it can grow very fast, Graptoveria Fred Ives is a target for mealie bugs who love to make a meal of the plant in growth point areas. In this video, I share my most effective method of battling mealie bugs using common rubbing alcohol, liquid soap & cotton swabs.
While trimming the mother plant, a gorgeous Graptoveria Fred Ives Cristata or crest was discovered. Crests form as a result of injury to the plants growth points; in response to the injury, some plants single growth points become multiple growth points resulting in wider stems & lateral leaf growth. The rare mutations are beautiful freaks of the succulent world.
