The former fiancée of the late Washington Post journalist Jamal Khashoggi, Hatice Cengiz, attended the premiere of a new documentary about his life at the 2020 Zurich Film Festival on Friday, on the second anniversary of her late partner's death.
Cengiz worked with Oscar-winning filmmaker Bryan Fogel to make the documentary.
Fogel said he felt compelled to tell the story of Khasogghi's death the more he learned about it. The U.S. director also said the emotional impact of making the film sometimes left him and Cengiz in tears.
Khashoggi, a critic of Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, was last seen at the Saudi consulate in Istanbul on Oct. 2, 2018, where he had gone to obtain documents for his impending wedding with Cengiz.
Turkish officials believe his body was dismembered and removed from the building but his remains have not been found.
The murder caused a global uproar and tarnished the reformist image of Prince Mohammad Bin Salman, Saudi Arabia's de facto ruler and son of King Salman.
