(29 Oct 2018) Hundreds of Brazilians celebrated far-right candidate Jair Bolsonaro's win in front of his Rio de Janeiro home after the contentious presidential runoff with leftist Fernando Haddad on Sunday.
When it was announced that Bolsonaro won with 55 percent of the vote, his supporters erupted in cheers, waving the Brazilian flag and setting off fireworks.
The former army captain found widespread support because he positioned himself as an outsider who will crack down on corruption and violence.
However, many Brazilians are also shocked by his offensive rhetoric targeting women, gays and blacks.
In Sao Paulo and other cities, people gathered in the streets to celebrate Bolsonaro's victory.
