After you have gone through hip arthroscopy - you can *still* have Snarky Psoas problems. Just because you have a successful surgery doesn't mean the muscles automatically start to function properly again (if only it were that easy).
This video takes my integrative approach to physical therapy, Medical Therapeutic Yoga (MTY), to help tackle post hip scope issues.
Important note: I do NOT use yoga for flexibility, so if you are a healthcare provider or individual who has gotten hurt or seen a patient hurt by yoga - then you are probably referring to what the mass majority of folks use yoga for - flexibility. As a pelvic and orthopedic PT, the yoga I use is called Medical Therapeutic Yoga, and it focuses on yoga for creating joint stability and for joint preservation.
This video includes two MTY poses:
1. Wide Angle Seated Sit (not a typical forward seated bend) - I start with a Hip Hack based on a tweaked Wide Angle Forward Seated Bend (but ditch the forward bend).
2. Floating Boat (not your grandma's boat pose) - Next I move to a Floating Boat Pose (but ditch the showboat part of the pose that overuses the hip flexors).
If you have hip impingement, groin pinching, or pain, you need to determine whether it is coming from the joint or surrounding muscles, aka the Snarky Psoas (as I like to call it).
A good hip and pelvic PT can discern 1 from the other. This is KEY before moving forward.
Once you clear the hip "pinch" feeling, this short series helps:
✅Downtrain (calming down) the Snarky Psoas (and related hip flexors and inner thigh muscles)
✅Nurture fluid movement, strength, and stability in the hip
✅Address core timing and strength in the core
✅Press the "reset button" on your nervous system and motor patterning.
Note: Use the MTY TATD Breath and Hip Lock in this pose, and as little muscular effort as possible, otherwise. If you haven't watched those videos yet, please do that first.
Hope this is helpful!
