Women of the Bible - Mary of Bethany
Who was Mary of Bethany? Mary of Bethany was the sister of Martha and Lazarus, friends in whose house Jesus was often a guest.
Mary lived in Bethany, just a few miles from Jerusalem.
Mary of Bethany appears in the Gospels after
Luke 10: 38-42 and John 11: 1 & 12: 8.
In the Bible we see Mary three times in different poses:
1. Mary stood at Jesus' feet listening to what he was saying and absorbing every word.
2. When Mary hears that Jesus has come to him
He resurrects Lazarus, leaves the mourning house, and hurries to meet Jesus.
3. And the last time we see Mary of Bethany just a few days before the crucifixion of Christ
(John 12: 1-8)
