While windsurfing today I decided to go out and back one more time and there was only me and one other windsurfer out there. That other windsurfer turned out to be @RobbyNaishUS1111. Luckily my father was filming from shore. Unfortunately, the video quality is crap, but I was stoked he filmed it. When Robby passed, he waved at me; cool to be out windsurfing and to have someone who is a poster on your wall windsurf by you. I'm that tiny kid sailing the red 2.1 sail in the background :-)

NOTE: It was overcast, a light rain was falling, and the beach was filled with thick grey smoke. When my dad shot this video Kanaha was literally on fire. He shot the video from about a hundred yards away with his iPhone and he was engulfed in smoke and had a shirt covering his face so as not to breathe in the smoke. Apparently, someone had deliberately started three different brush fires at Kanaha. It was cool to see Robby but surreal to see the entire shoreline covered in thick smoke while it was also drizzling rain. It was an eerie scene from offshore; Robby was sailing in front of me, all the trees on the beach were filled with thick smoke and there was a yellow helicopter hovering above the trees with a bucket dumping water on the fires. Crazy experience, it was not a typical day at Kanaha.
When I'm an old man I can tell the tale of when I was 9 years old, I once saw Robby Naish appear out of nowhere and sailed past me from fire & smoke. :-)
This was the third time I have crossed paths with him; I first met Robby in Orlando, FL at the SurfExpo when I was three years old, then I met him at the Maui Film Festival when I was six, this time at age nine he windsurfed past me at Kanaha Beach Park...guess I will see him again in another 3 years.
