Five Benefits of Open Access
Open access benefits society by allowing more people to access research. There are also many benefits for researchers who make their research publicly accessible.
1. Open access increases citations for researchers. Studies show open access research is more likely to be cited than non-open access research. This means researchers can increase the impact their research has within the academic community by publishing open access.
2. Open access also allows researchers to retain control of their intellectual property. Researchers who publish open access can use and share their work freely, which helps to facilitate collaboration. Open access will also improve the quality of research by increasing its transparency and reproducibility.
3. Open access provides practitioners, policy makers, and the general public with access to research. People need access to research, but many of them are unable to afford it. They can use the research to further their professional practice, create better policy, and improve their personal lives.
4. Improves access to research for people around the globe. People in low-income countries are especially affected by the high cost of research. Because open access makes research freely available, it also improves access to research for people around the globe.
5. Open Access increases the value of research. When research is publicly accessible, more people are able to work together to solve problems, and more people are able to benefit from the solutions to those problems.
