The Gloster Gladiator was the RAF's last biplane fighter aircraft and was rendered obsolete by newer monoplane designs even as it was being introduced. Though often pitted against more formidable foes during the early days of the Second World War, it acquitted itself reasonably well in combat.

L9033 of 5 Squadron (Egyptian Air Force) was camouflaged in the standard RAF Desert Land Scheme. A Watts two-blade propeller with the streamlined spinner cap was fitted, along with a Vokes tropical filter.
