The King has spoken of the passing “sands of time”, as he used his first speech in Australia to highlight a longstanding connection to the country.
Charles said it was “slightly worrying” to think that it was “nearly 60 years” since his first visit “to Oz”.
Addressing a reception at Parliament House in Sydney to mark the legislature’s bicentenary year, the King lifted a cover to reveal that his gift to mark the 200th anniversary of the New South Wales parliament was an hourglass.
