tito, who recently returned from a tour of communist nations that took him to the soviet union, china, and north norea, has been extremely active of late, be if to belie rumours of ill-health.
tito, who is 85, has also become active in the middle-east. he stopped in tehran on his way back from china, and has met with arab leaders, including libya's colonel moammar khaddafy and syria's premier abdel rahman khleifawi.

commentary: kadar too has been extremely active. the hungarian leader became the first communist head of state to be received by pope paul, and has tried to improve relations between hungary and western europe as well.
tito and kadar, as leaders looking to widen relations between their countries and the west, were thought likely to discuss the developments in the so-called euro-communism, particularly in light of the upcoming french elections, scheduled for march.
tito is also believed to be seeking insurance that yugoslavia will be free from meddling by other nations in the event of his death. after decades of his dominance, yugoslavia will face a serious power vacuum in the months following his death.
the two eastern european leaders are expected to also discuss matters of bilateral concern, including economic and cultural exchanges.
