Video ends showing these cow/calves gathered from field by their new owner using the trained ABCA Border Collie he got from us. I do not like my stock dogs, or the cattle exposed to such punishment from each other; but this is the only method I know to dog break a cattle herd with the time we had available. It's satisfying to help cattle farms and ranches convert to working Border Collies and see them reap the joys and benefits of help gathering, driving, sorting, loading, with herding dogs that can also hold the gate when feeding hay.

There are plenty of videos of herding dogs moving well-dogged cattle or feeders with little or no resistance. I hope this clip demonstrates that some lines of Border Collies will stand up to aggressive stock. Over the years, we have dog-broke many breeds of cattle and one small mob of bison.
I have worked with numerous breeds of stock dogs. All have their good points because they're made by God, and what He makes is good. But in my opinion the full-blooded Border collie is the most versatile, intelligent, capable and biddable; and when bred right is as tough, gritty and hard biting as any breed. I feel they are the choice dog for almost any livestock operation. I advise you stick with ABCA registered Border collies, the true American registry for the working Border collie. Many believe that the AKC with its historic focus on confirmation, results in increased genetic disorders, degraded working ability and loss of intelligence.
