Brief History of GKPB.
The history began in 1863 when the Dutch Missionary Society U2W (Utrecht Mission Society) collaborated with the Netherlands Bible Society (NBG) by sending three missionaries, including J. De Vroom.
During a decade of service, only one person was baptized in 1873; however, in 1881, that convert killed the evangelist. In 1882, Bali was closed as a mission field by the Dutch government until 1927.
In that year, the Dutch East Indies government granted permission to Chinese evangelist Tsang To Hang from the Chinese Missionary Union (CMU), in collaboration with the Christian Missionary Alliance (CMA), to work among the Chinese ethnic community in Denpasar, Bali.
On November 11, 1931, twelve Balinese individuals were baptized by Pastor R. A. Jaffry (CMA) at Yeh Poh River, Dalung Village, Badung-Bali, as a result of Tsang To Hang's evangelism. This baptism marked a significant milestone in the establishment of the Balinese Church.
The GKPB (Gereja Kristen Protestan Bali) was established as a Synod starting in 1949 with the issuance of Legal Body No. 8 on August 11, 1949, based on staadblat number 214 located in Blimbingsari.
GKPB operates as a Synodal Presbyterian church where the highest authority lies with the synod assembly consisting of representatives from various congregations within GKPB. In 1960, GKPB was accepted as a member of DGI (now PGI) in Jakarta.
Throughout its history, GKPB has had its headquarters at several locations: Untal-Untal, Debes No. 6 Denpasar; Jl. Sutomo No. 101 Denpasar; and currently at Jl. Raya Kapal No. 20 Kapal Mengwi Badung.
