Lawmakers at the National Assembly are holding a meeting on whether to adopt hearing reports on three minister nominees.
For the details we connect to our Shin Se-min who is at the assembly for us.
Se-min, have the sessions started... and what are the prospects for this going smoothly?
The separate sessions are scheduled at different times today, and already we saw the greenlight given to one of the minister nominees this morning.
Minutes ago we learned that the Agriculture, Oceans and Fisheries Committee members had decided to adopt a hearing report on nominee Kim Young-choon for the ministry's top post.
Kim Young-choon,... is the third to have received bipartisan support under the new Moon administration.
And in the afternoon, the Security and Public Administration Committee will do the same for the interior minister nominee Kim Boo-kyum.
In terms of their endorsements,… it seems almost certain lawmakers will give the two nominees the nod as there were no serious issues raised at their confirmation hearings that would negatively affect their chances.
Representatives of the rival political parties will also meet this morning on culture minister nominee Do Jong-hwan's hearing report.
The prospect for the culture minister designate,... too, isn't that bad.
Just as a side note,... these relatively positive reviews of the candidates' qualifications,... was practically foreseen,... as all three are incumbent lawmakers.
Interesting. So another lawmaker is having a confirmation hearing today... can we expect that will go relatively smoothly as well?
Most likely.
The hearing on land minister nominee Kim Hyun-mee,... a sitting lawmaker of the ruling Democratic Party,... taking place as we speak.
Fielding questions from her fellow lawmakers,... it's highly likely the session will include more questions about the nominee's policy-related views.
But there are allegations Kim may have received illegal political funds in her role as lawmaker,... something she will have to testify about today.
But if she is confirmed, Kim will become the country's first ever female land minister.
Mark?
