The University of West Florida women's basketball team has a history of success. The Argonauts were one of the top teams in the Gulf South Conference in the late 90's, winning 98 games in a five-year span from 1996-2001.
The UWF women's basketball program has won three East Division GSC Championships and appeared in the NCAA Tournament twice since joining Division II in 1997.
Head coach Stephanie Lawrence Yelton joined the West Florida women's basketball program in the summer of 2012 and made an immediate impact. In her first season as the head coach, UWF upset longtime GSC powerhouse Delta State in Yelton's first conference win of her career.
