Hello fellow Alchemists,

Today I will be recrystallizing Copper (II) Sulfate Pentahydrate to increase its purity.

I am using OTC Root Killer which claims 99%, but I don't believe it.

First things first, I Dissolve 250 grams of Copper Sulfate into 150 milliliters of H20.

I will need to heat to near boiling to get this to dissolve fully.

Once dissolved, I quickly pour the solution through a filter paper to eliminate any undissolved impurities.

The Copper Sulfate might try to crystalize on the filter paper, but it should re-dissolve as I keep pouring.

Once the solution is filtered, set it aside to cool.

Slow cooling makes bigger crystals, Fast cooling makes smaller crystals.

Weighing Copper Sulfate is easier with smaller crystals, so I will cool this in an ice bath.

As its cooling there will be crystals forming, I keep cooling until the solution is near 0 degrees Celsius.

Then I Quickly pour the solution through a new filter paper, collecting the crystals in the filter.

I can rinse these crystals with cold water, or better yet, cold Acetone.

I let the crystals dry over time, and I will be left with about 200 grams of Pure Copper 2 Sulfate Crystals.

There still will be about 50 grams of Copper Sulfate in the leftover solution. Instead of wasting this, I can use it to create Copper Carbonate in the next video.
