Across the globe, countries have experienced a surge in cases credited to this subvariant, including Denmark, the UK, Norway and Sweden.
Dr Edward Kelley is chief global health officer for the medical technology company Apiject, and former director of integrated health services for the WHO. He says this new subvariant is a warning that the pandemic is not yet over.
