Today we're going to be taking a look at the Glacier cable snow tire chains, part number PW1026. These cable snow tire chains are great for the occasional use. They're going to be perfect for cars, light trucks and vans. Steel rollers form cross cables, and they're designed to give you excellent traction on light snow and ice. These cable snow tire chains feature a ladder pattern, so they're going to be very effective during stopping and accelerating. They're designed to work with wheel sizes between 13 and 17 inches.
Be sure to check etrailer.com for your specific tire size. These chains are SAE class S chains, and they're designed for vehicles with limited wheel well clearance. They're low profile, so they're going to provide you with a smoother and more quiet ride than chains that have links. They have a maximum speed rating of 30 mph, and they come in a quantity of two. You also get this nice bag, so you can install them when not in use.
They meet Department of Transportation requirements in all states. Now I'll show you how easy they are to get installed. Now we're going to be putting tire chains on the front tires of our Honda Fit because it is front wheel drive. To begin our test fit I've gone ahead and laid out the chain. It's a good idea to make sure there's no kinks, twists or any tangles in it. You also want to be sure that the hooks here, the open side is facing up, our tire is going to go underneath and that the eyelets are facing forward towards the front of the car.
Now we can drape the chain over the tire. I'm just going to grab at the center, bring it over the tire. We want to make sure that it's even on both sides. An easy way to check that is to grab the cable here in the front, feel around to the back and make sure it's about the same. Then we can connect at the back first. Now in some cases it can make it much easier if you turn your wheel all the way to one side.
Here on the backside what we want to do is connect our stoppers here to our eyelet here. We don't want to connect too many though because then we won't be able to connect the front side evenly. We'll start off by connecting a few. We could always loosen it or tighten it later. Let's go ahead and connect the two there, and then we'll connect the front. Here on the front we're going to do the exact same thing, only this time we're going to connect as many as we can. We definitely got three. Let's go ahead and try for one more. There we go. Then we can take our keeper here, slide it over. That's just going to help prevent it from flapping around as we go on the road. Once you get one tire done, go ahead and repeat the same process for the tire on the other side. When you get both sides done, the manufacturer does recommend using a rubber adjuster. This is just going to help keep that cable nice, and tight and snug around your tire while you're on the road. You can pick up two with part number PW105. They're very easy to install. Be sure that the hook is facing away from the tire. We'll clip the top, come across and then work our way around. You can already see how it's starting to snug up that cable, that's what we want. Now it is a good idea to drive a short distance, stop, get out, check to see if you need to make any adjustments. That's going to complete our look at the Glacier cable snow tire chains, part number PW1026.
