My fish room has a new 20 gallon aquarium shelving rack system. Stacking fish tanks is the way to go with having lots of aquariums. Let me know what you think of the shelf setup. I’m pretty happy with the turnout.
More talk on fish:
I agree with a lot of people on here- the onus is on you to know your fish, your tank, and what it can handle. There are a lot of really knowledgeable fish store owners, and there are a lot of inexperienced employees. You know what you have, so you need to know what you can have in it.
Always research the type of fish you want to get, libraries are a good place to start gathering the information on the type of fish, I have heard some people complain about Green spotted puffers being agressive ( in the wild, whole schools of Green spotted puffers have been observed killing and eating an entire Elephant that fell into the water...
From someone who has been keeping fish, both fresh tropical and freshwater native American fish for over 40 years myself and one of the original founders of the Greater Portland Aquarium Society, always research you fish before buying them.
Yeah it sucks that you can’t trust all petstore employees... in my experience they have problems telling you “no” or that you’re wrong if you say you want something. Often it’s better to ask them to suggest something from the beginning... but yeah, it’s annoying, and I hope anyone in the business in this group can tell a customer “no”.
That's too bad. The place I go to would never mislead. They would rather give the proper information and have you return than give you B.S you finding out and not returning. Plus they all know their stuff and are happy to answer questions. A long time ago I was going to start a fish only salt tank and was there to buy a sump skimmer return pump all this media. And they could of easily sold all that to me but they said no man all you need is a hang on the back skimmer and you're good.
TECHNICALLY it could work but not recommended because of overstocking/crowding. I’ve had 10 neons, a betta, and a snail and 2 cories in the same tank. (not recommended bc so much poop and overcrowding) You would need very frequent water changes.
In terms of them getting a long, fish are like people, depends on the personality/temperament of the fish. They all did get a long and most do with these particular fish. HOWEVER, lack of space = more poop/maintenance and unhappy fish so you won’t see any interesting movements and they’re stressed out a lot. It also promotes aggression when there is no space.
So I’m gonna say give her the benefit of the doubt on this one. It TECHNICALLY does work out.
Also, it is your own duty to figure out what you have and how to work it. She can recommend things, but she doesnt know the right fit for you and can not ultimately decide for you.
Easy way is inch per gallon rule. (But doesnt work in all cases. I wouldnt put a 20in pleco in a 20 gallon per se) Do your own quick google research and apply knowledge accordingly.
Alot of petstores will sell you anything you ask for. Normally they'll ask what tank you have or what's in it if they know what they're on about. However, if you buy that amount of fish for a 10gal, and they knowingly sell you them, they either don't know or they don't care.... Hopefully not the latter one.
1. Way too many fish for that small of a tank. 2. DO YOUR OWN RESEARCH. It is NOT their responsibility to give you information on how to keep fish. It is your responsibility to know this information before buying the fish. And their responsibility to sell you fish that you asked to buy.
