In a world first a live worm was pulled from the brain of an Australian woman.
In an operation in June 2022, surgeons found the roundworm, which had grown to eight centimeters long.
It was removed from a 64-year-old from New South Wales who had been suffering symptoms since January 2021.
The roundworm is usually found in pythons.
The patient likely become infected after collecting and eating wildgrass.
The case was documented in September's Emerging Infectious Diseases journal.
