"I've come representing the Bishops' Conference of the United States. And a solidarity visit to visit the local church here in Jordan and to thank them for their generosity and taking in 1.5 (m) million refugees from Iraq, from Syria, and to see that the wonderful work that they are doing in expressing generosity and hospitality to these refugees, those who are fleeing war-torn countries and violence. And so...and also, to as we return to the United States to advocate to our own government that we should take in our own fair share of refugees to the United States and it can be done so safely."

6. SOUNDBITE (Arabic) Robeen Hajenian, Iraqi refugee:
"The circumstances (in Baghdad) were not normal. We decided to leave (Iraq) because of maltreatment, and what encouraged us to leave was that our sons live outside Iraq, so we are trying to join them."

"We are trying to immigrate (outside Jordan) through the Church. We've been here in Amman for the last three months, the situation is normal in Amman, we are waiting for the results. Once we have the results we will leave. We thank Jordan for their hospitality."

STORYLINE:
Fifty bishops from different churches around the world gathered in the Jordanian capital, Amman, on Monday as part of a tour of the Middle East.
The bishops from Europe, North America and South Africa visited Bethlehem, the Gaza Strip and Jordan during their annual Holy Land pilgrimage.
In Amman they met with Christians from Iraq who fled their home country in search of a better life.
