This brief scene, a good twenty minutes into the film, is the first time we hear Ennio Morricone's gentle theme. It's the first moment of peace and reflection after a chaotic opening, as this family is thrust into the noise and bustle of Calcutta. The rousing moments of this score seem to try and recapture the feeling of the previous success between Roland Joffé and Morricone - The Mission - but it is these quiet scenes that linger in the mind.
Starring Patrick Swayze, Om Puri, Pauline Collins and Art Malik. Screenplay by Mark Medoff, based on the book by Dominique Lapierre. Directed by Roland Joffé, with an original score by Ennio Morricone.
