Microsoft Excel Tutorial: New look for the Excel Ribbon and Quick Access Toolbar.
Welcome to episode 2414 of the MrExcel Podcast, where we take a first look at the new changes to the Office ribbon and Quick Access Toolbar in Excel. Microsoft has been teasing these updates for a while now, and finally, some lucky users are starting to see the changes on their machines. In this episode, we'll explore the new features and discuss how to access them.
To get the new look, you'll need to be on the Insiders beta program and be one of the lucky 25% who have been selected to receive the update. If you're one of the lucky few, you'll see a little megaphone icon in the ribbon that says "Upcoming Features - Try It Now." Click on that and you'll be able to toggle the new features on and off. But don't worry if you don't have it yet, it's still in the testing phase and will eventually roll out to all users.
One of the biggest changes is the relocation of the Quick Access Toolbar. By default, it is now hidden, but you can easily bring it back by going to File, Options, and selecting "Show Quick Access Toolbar." You can also choose to have it above or below the ribbon, with the option to show command labels. This is a great feature for those who like to customize their toolbar with frequently used commands.
But with these changes, there are also some challenges. For those of us who are writing books or creating online courses, we'll have to update all of our screenshots to reflect the new look. But overall, the new design is sleek and modern, and we have to give credit to Sam Rad and the Excel team for their hard work on this project.
It's still unclear if these changes will only be available for Microsoft 365 users or if they will also be included in the new Excel 2021. Microsoft has stated that the new Excel 2021 should only be used in very specific situations, as it will not have all the latest features. So, it will be interesting to see how this all plays out. Thank you for tuning in to this episode of the MrExcel Podcast, and be sure to check back for more updates and tips on all things Excel.
