Tom Blackshear has accumulated a tremendous amount of knowledge, similar to many of the great Spanish luthiers who practiced this age old art of shaping the voice of the guitar once it is built. This proprietary skill has been long lost by many of the factories due to their need to produce a greater number of instruments for the market place. So, it is, with Tom’s and Manuel’s ideal, to try and bring this old school fine-tuning method back into the market for greater benefit to players.
Tom has commissioned his guitar design to be built by the famous builder, Manuel Adalid of Spain, thru a collaborative effort of modeling and testing with an experienced concert player, as the tester for these incredible guitars. Going thru various prototypes, using the best woods and materials possible, Tom is satisfied that they had done an excellent job, one that he can put his name on, and he then proceeded to set the guitar up, fine-tune and finish it to his specifications.
Moderately low action, with room to lower, superbly setup, very easy play, the guitar resonates against your body. The clear voicing, fat and round, warm with coloring, and the slightest bit of rasp of the guitar becomes evident when you push her a bit, mindful of the older recordings of the Spanish masters of years gone by. The balance is superb with a firm sound to the basses, a strong mid range, and a lilting sing to the trebles. Such a beauty of a guitar collaborated by a gentleman luthier.
