For two thousand years the Four Cardinal Virtues of Stoicism - Courage, Justice, Temperance and Wisdom – have provided stoic practitioners with a robust, moral framework to guide their internal faculties and cultivate a life of virtue and flourishing.
In this video we explore the nuanced interweaving between the four virtues, as well as the opinions of well-known stoics such as Marcus Aurelius and Seneca, and look into some examples of how the virtues can be applied to our lives.
The practical nature of Stoicism’s ethical framework has ensured it remains one of the most richly diverse philosophical systems, transcending centuries of history through its timeless applicability.
In this video we will explore the nuanced interweaving between the four cardinal virtues of Stoicism, and uncover the delicate complexities which, when used in coalescence, imbue the virtues with a robust foundation capable of empowering an individual to traverse any scenario in life.
The Stoics believed that virtue was the highest good in life and should be one’s ultimate goal. They believed that virtue should be embedded in our very character through our thoughts and mental faculties, and manifested in the external world through our actions and behaviours.
By living a life instilled with virtue one could achieve ‘eudaimonia’, a state of flourishing and happiness. The Stoics believed that the path to a virtuous life was to live in accordance with our rational principles, guided by the divine reason inherent in the natural world.
