Before beginning any maneuver, always inform the patient or loved one on what you are doing so they are not startled.

1). Place the wheelchair in close proximity of the vehicle.
Lock the brakes on the wheelchair for safety.

2). Assist the patient to a standing position and have the patient face the caregiver.

3). Using the upper or lower frontal hand grips, the caregiver pivots the patient until he/she is standing in front of the opened car door.

4). The caregiver will place one hand on the patient’s head and guide him/her into the vehicle.

5). Using the left hand, the caregiver reaches across to the left upper back hand grip, and with the right hand lifts both legs into the vehicle while pulling the upper left back hand grip towards the caregiver to position the patient in proper body alignment. Apply seat belt.
